Dr.  Maritza I. Irizarry has been an active participant in the pediatric population and its healthcare needs, especially within the state of Arizona, for over twenty years. Following her graduation from the Ponce School of Medicine in 1985, Dr. Irizarry plunged into Pediatrics with gusto, successfully operating two offices. Dr. Irizarry has received numerous awards, certificates, and commendations recognizing her commitment to the healthcare of Arizona residents, and also of those abroad while participating in medical missions–experiences that are held close to her heart. Dr. Irizarry is very involved in the community with a special interest in moving underserved-women forward. Dr. Irizarry is well-known and respected among the medical community. Sunshine Pediatrics is the only sole woman-owned medical practice in the area.  Dr. Irizarry is credentialed at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and enjoys the comradery afforded by that affiliation.

In her spare time, Dr. Irizarry enjoys spending time with her family including her grandchild. Dr. Irizarry has several hobbies including music and singing, gardening, crafts and is closely involved with her church. For now, Dr. Irizarry’s passion for traveling is on hold, however, she is confident that the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters, as well as mitigation strategies will change that. With an increase in vaccinations, a return to a somewhat normal pre-pandemic state is in the future.

Dr. Irizzary maintains licensing in two countries which means that she spends double the usual time on required continuing education activities.
